Feast Chicken Club.
I’d been to Feast on Delaware for dinner three times out of convenience — it’s close to Michigan Avenue shopping and often easy to find a seat because it’s off the main drag. I enjoyed the wine flights and thought the service was a tad slow, but those were really my only lasting impressions. So when I found myself there for lunch on Saturday, my expectations were low. But It turns out that lunchtime is the right time to go to Feast.
My chicken club sanadwich served with bacon, guac, and sweet potato fries was excellent, and the other salads and sandwiches the kitchen was turning out looked just as good. The outdoor seating space is a pleasant and shady place to spend the afternoon with just the right amount of street and foot traffic to make for good people watching without being overwhelming. The frozen vodka “Feast” lemonade is also worth a sip or two.
I recommend paying an afternoon visit to Feast before the leaves fall.

Heaven is a tilapia taco from Carbon.
It’s a great thing to find heaven in unexpected places. And when the food there is cheap and there’s no waiting? Even better.
Heaven in this case is Carbon Mexican Grill and it’s located under I-55 on 26th Street. The lovely view of concrete pylons didn’t detract a bit from my enjoyment of the $2.50 Tilapia tacos. A little guacamole and a side of elote added in? I hardly noticed the roar of traffic in the background.
For less than $10, you can have an outstanding lunch that beats most of what you can find in the Loop. It’s worth the drive.

Don't forget to get an order of spicy elote!

The Spa Cafe is no more and in its place is Lunch Rolls, which specializes in sandwiches.
The interior of the restaurant hasn’t changed at all since Tammy and I were there three years ago — even the tables are the same — but the menu is very different. I liked that there are still a number of healthy options. You can get your sandwich on a whole wheat house roll, in a whole wheat pita wrap, or you can skip the bread all together and have your sandwich fixings on a salad.
Fellow foodie @robking2520 and I split a smoked whitefish sandwich on a white lunch roll with a side of mac and cheese, and a Morrocan lamb sandwich on a wheat lunch roll with a side of grilled veggies. We were famished at the time, and so eager to get on with the eating, that we totally forgot to take pictures of our food before we cut our sandwiches apart. But don’t let my subpar pictures fool you! Both sandwiches were excellent. We liked the whitefish a bit better, but that’s because we both prefer white bread lunch rolls.
The sides were good too, especially the mac and cheese. I’m often disappointed with the runny, bland mac and cheese at fast food places, so this was a standout in comparison. Bread crumbs were sprinkled on top adding just the right amount of crunch and the cheese had flavor.
We also sampled the Tropi-Cola — a blend of ginger ale and coke. The result tastes startlingly like liquid bubble gum. I made my way through it but wouldn’t get it again.
Swing by Lunch Rolls next time you’re out and about in the Loop. It’s a great place for an affordable quick bite!
