I opted for a shrimp stir-fry on my last trip to Tank Noodle.

Located on the corner of Broadway and Argyle, Tank Noodle is always brimming with people trying to grab a quick Vietnamese meal. Communal dining, fast food, and an endless menu are all hallmarks of the Tank dining experience. The prices certainly can’t be beat. Less than $15 per person? I’ll take that in this economy.

Noodle soups are popular, but you can also get a variety of bubble teas, stir-fry and curry dishes. Even though food is cheap here, don’t be tempted to order a lot — the portions are huge! I can’t finish a meal at Tank no matter how hard I try.

If you have energy after you’ve eaten, it’s fun to look into the Vietnamese grocery stores and bakeries along Argyle street. Last time I popped into a grocery store in that neighborhood, I found a religious shrine in the back. It’s definitely worth the trip.

Got a favorite spot along Argyle? Give us a shout out on Twitter.

We tried our hand at Ethiopian Diamond. The food is served on one communal plate, and silverware is for wimps.

Tammy and I recently abandoned our silverware and relied on our hands to scoop up food at two of Chicago’s Ethiopian restaurants. After our first experience at Ethiopian Diamond, it was clear that neither one of us had the frame-of-reference needed to talk about the food. We could barely identify what we ordered, let alone pronounce it! So we made our way to Demera to learn a little more. Listen in as we compare the two places, discuss the dining experiences overall, and give you our take on the spicy tastes.
