If you’re looking for a choice that’s healthier and tastier than most grab-and-go fast food places, consider Freshii. The newest Chicago store, located among the trendy shops at 854 West Armitage, marries the convenience of the chain with a neighborhood vibe.
Since I had never tried Freshi before, I gave owner Alex Blair free reign to unleash the menu on my taste buds. He came back with an ABC3 Juice made with apples, golden beets, and carrots, celery and cucumbers. It’s a subtly sweet and healthy mix that’s several steps removed from a heavy milkshake.
I also tried the Superbiotic Green Wrap that layered chicken, chickpeas, and pico de gallo in a steamed collared green wrap. The collared green was an easy substitution for a tortilla and added a pleasing crunch. For dessert, the in-house probiotic yogurt was delightful. Plus, I could practically feel the dietary virtue seeping from my pores. Ahhh…
Easy decisions are the point. Freshii provides tasty choices for people who need a convenient way to move into a healthier diet. For people who already know about kale or who have specific dietary concerns, customizing menu items requires a quick question or two. The staff is happy to make needed changes.
Though service is fast, there’s fresh fruit, an assortment of snacks including Keenwah, and boxed water/juice available in case you don’t have time to wait around for a salad.
Next time I’m near one of the Chicago-area Freshii stores, including the soon-to-be-open location at Aon Center, I’ll have no hesitation popping in for breakfast, lunch, or even a smoothie.
