The new Target on State Street will have its grand opening on July 29, which is exciting news for those seeking new options for retail therapy. Perhaps more exciting from a foodie perspective is the Pret A Manger that opens on the same day. I’ve been a Pret fan for a while, so they invited me to the media preview of the new shop, located on the SW corner of the first floor. Both Target and Pret have done a lot with the space, and I was happy to see the formerly gloomy Carson’s transformed. The original columns & capitals are still in place and look amazing.
The charming Martin Bates, president of Pret A Manger US, was on hand to answer questions about the new Pret A Manger. He didn’t drift off point, so I’ll include the official quote rather than try to paraphrase: “Both Pret and Target customers seek out value, convenience and quality, so this partnership reflects a strong synergy between the two brands,” says Bates. “Target has established itself as a well-loved and trusted brand across America, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with such a highly revered company and help make the launch of the Chicago CityTargetlocation something extra special. We look forward to bringing our fresh, hand-made food to Target shoppers.”
All well and good, thought I wish he would’ve given some hint about the next round of seasonal menu changes or the secret as to what makes the Red Pepper Falafel wrap so addictive. I accepted a sparkling Ginger Beer on this visit instead of pressing for answers to questions that I will solve over repeated visits to downtown Pret A Manger shops. There are six. You should find a reason to stop by one today…or on July 29!
