Micro Brew & Food Review

Micro Brew & Food Review

My new favorite beer event took place last weekend. In its fourth year, the Micro Brew & Food Review took place in Oak Park and had representatives from almost every Chicago micro brewery. This event only lacks the presence of Three Floyds to make it ideal for side-by-side comparisons between every IPA, Lager and Pilsner the area has to offer.

Highlights of the event included a refreshing passionate fruit wheat beer from two month old 5 Rabbit Brewery, Revolution Brewing‘s Anti-Hero IPA, and Angry Birds — a Belgian Rye IPA from Haymarket Pub & Brewery. Although the robots from Metropolitan Brewing are not the droids you’re looking for, the Flywheel, Dynamo and Krankshaft were definitely on my list.

The event strives for zero waste, with options for attendees to use recycled forks, napkins, plates, reusable glasses for beer, and bins for composting left-over food. There was a lot of thought put into making the event sustainable, and I appreciated the effort. Most large events seem to encourage waste, but this one expected folks to do better.

A nice selection of food, greater-Illinois brewers, and DJ’s spinning funky soul, rounded out the event. Definitely put this event on your calendar for next year!

  1. It’s very refreshing to see organizers and attendees of a beer event who want to reduce their carbon footprint and recycle. Fun robot beer dispensing machine, too!
