These chilly February days are perhaps a tad more bearable when fortified with a hearty soup, so I’ve been sampling the soup almost everywhere I go. It’s turning out to be a worthy venture because sometimes you find good soup in unexpected places.
The house soup at Habana Libre for example, a hole-in-the wall on West Chicago, is excellent. Usually I wouldn’t think of soup first at a Cuban place. But this is worth pausing for. Made with peppers mushrooms and fresh spinach,it’s healthy too, and a nice option when it’s too late to order paella (that takes an hour to prepare and the kitchen staff understandably won’t make it when it’s close to closing time). Maybe it hit the spot partly because Cuban food makes me think of warmer climates. But at this point I’ll take what I can get. Where is your favorite unexpected place for soup? Please leave a comment or drop us a line on Twitter. A warm-up is on the way, but I may need some more soup in reserve even still!
