A Mighty Nice Surprise — A Quick Bite at Water Tower Place

Fish and chips

Fish and chips at Mighty Nice will help you beat the chill.

Mac and cheese

The mac and cheese could use a little work.

As part of an on-going personal quest to stay out of the cold but still get out and about, I recently found myself at the Mighty Nice Grill — the sit-down restaurant located at the back of the food court in Water Tower Place.  Why? Because after a little bit of shopping, I didn’t have to go outside again to get there! Under normal circumstances, I would have never gone to Mighty Nice for dinner, but frigid temps call for desperate measures.  And I was surprised to find that both the menu and the dining space have gotten a face lift, making the overall experience quite palatable.

Mud pie

The mud pie is really good.

It had been at least five years since I’d been there and gone is the old-school, wood-paneled feel.  In its place is a modern well-lit space, that seems to work except for the sayings painted on the walls.  Still, the fish and chips are good and the mud pie is yummy.  The mac and cheese didn’t work for me.  But it’s still a place to keep in mind. A tourist or shopper could do much worse. And I never thought I’d say that!
