I decided to brave a cold, snowy Saturday to join in Green City Market’s Food to Table Photo Contest. The goal was to document a meal made from ingredients obtained from area farmers and food producers. I picked up items from Bennison’s Bakery, Fayette Creamery and Nichol’s Farm & Orchard for my Golden Winter Soup. It’s a great recipe that’s easy to make.

I followed the list of ingredients faithfully except for substituting vegetable broth for the chicken broth, and using a pretzel baguette and banded cheddar cheese instead of a regular baguette and Gruy√®re. The only thing I expected to find at market but couldn’t get from anyone were the leeks. I’m sure if I’d asked around, one of the farmers could have offered a substitution.

I have enough soup to last for a week or more, which is a good thing because the Green City Market won’t be back until February 12. In the meantime, I’m going to check out the other entries for the GCM Contest and pick up some ideas for winter recipes. If you entered the contest, let me know.
