If you’re on the hunt for a neighborhood spot with some kick, stop by Cafe 28, a Latin American restaurant with Cuban flair. I’m a fan of the platanos maduros for brunch, lunch and dinner, but I really come here for the smoky, spicy dishes like comal — a mix of stewed seasonal vegetables in a savory tomato sauce. The heat comes from the salsa morita which is served on the side and guaranteed to hurt so good.
The honey jalapeño pork chops mixes heat and sweet on the meat, and Cafe 28 serves a healthy side of sweet potatoes to eat when the burn becomes too much. Be glad they give you the option of only one pork chop because otherwise you could spend all night eating. However, if you like the spice like I do, that may be a great way to go.
