Cored Croissant | Fritz Pastry

Croissants undergo intense examination.

Croissant Quest 2010 continued this week with a look at Fritz Pastry in Lakeview. I’d been to Fritz while doing cupcake crawl research, but did not leave room to try their other baked goods. I did not make that mistake this time — sampling a lovely rhubarb torte, an overly-deep-fried chocolate donut, and of course, croissants.

Blues and browns dominate, right down to the food.

We had the plain croissant, our standard on the quest, as well as the chocolate croissant. Both were a deep, lovely brown, but left us with more crumbs that compliments. I felt the chocolate croissant would have delightful if it had been served warm. After all, there’s nothing better than gooey chocolate.

In their favor, quest-wise, is a completely civilized location. It’s a neighborhood spot with outdoor seating and a minimum of fussy kids and the occasional hipster hanging the corner. So far, it’s the spot I’d most want to spend time at on our quest, but unfortunately it runs last in croissants.

The quest continues. If you have a recommendation, please leave a comment or send us a tweet, thanks!
