Chicago Bites #02
Adobo Grill

In this episode, we review Adobo Grill, a super-comfortable, feel-good eatery that stands out among the good restaurants in Old Town. We’ve gone there a ton over the years, but it never gets stale. The whole place... its food... its decor... exudes taste and style.

Tammy suggested that I re-count one of the many good times or meals I’ve had at Adobo to introduce this restaurant. But how can I choose one story from the memorable evenings I’ve spent there, toasting birthdays, meeting new friends or getting ready to enjoy a show at Second City?

So I’ll say this... going to Adobo is a special occasion in and of itself.

Just one wheelchair accessibility tip: The restaurant staff is very accommodating, and they’ve rigged up a portable wheelchair ramp that fits over the entrance stairs for easier access. (Sometimes a board over stairs can be scary, but this one isn’t bad at all.) The ramp is set up over three stairs located at a side entrance in the Piper’s Alley building. So if you need the ramp, bring a friend or your cell phone with you so you can let the staff know when you arrive. The restrooms are accessible.

I think the dessert you were describing was a chocolate tamale, but my real comment is: somehow, being a lifetime member of weight watchers doesn't seem like a good thing. ;-)

Good point A. We were talking Weight Watchers talk, without really defining it. To be a "lifetime member" you have to reach your goal weight and maintain it for eight weeks. After that, you can go back on the program when and if you need to without having to pay for it. It's a good deal!

I don't believe it was me who brought the white wine -- we brought a bottle of champagne over instead.

I have a few good ideas for that varietal though, I'll let you know next time I see you guys.

Adobe will always have a special place in my heart for all the great times we have had there.

There is a picture taken at Adobo Grill above my monitor right now. :)

Last time I at there James Ward the Food critic was there. We asked the waiter if he was critiquing the restaurant. The waiter said "No, he comes here all the time." If he likes it you know it is good. And it is. The chocolate tamale is too die for too..MMM

Wow! That's cool Mike! I didn't know Ward likes to eat there. He must have good taste then, like you say... even for a food critic! And couldn't agree with you more on the chocolate tamale. :-)
